Race Details

A long spell of sunshine greeted the MXGP for the Grand Prix of Latvia at Kegums. Round 9 was held on soft, shallow terrain, but the fast layout and hard base made the circuit tricky and difficult for the MXGP and MX2 classes. Despite fifteen years as an integral part of the MXGP calendar, Kegums was hit by a short but intense rain shower that affected the end of the first MX2 moto and the start of the MXGP race. On Saturday, RAM qualifying took place in warm and dry conditions, with Herlings taking 6th in MXGP and Andrea Adamo 4th in MX2 . On Sunday, the track became soft and bumpy in places, fast and inviting in others. Herlings made a strong start to the first MXGP race aboard his KTM 450 SX-F, taking his third win of 2024. In the second race, he finished third, securing his first overall win of 2024. In MX2 , Sacha Coenen dominated with 3rd and 1st place finishes, taking his first GP win. Everts finished 5th overall, while Adamo had a difficult weekend, finishing 9th.

Pilots' Statements

  • Jeffrey Herlings : "I'm very happy. Yesterday was bad, but today I showed that I can still ride well! The podium was the goal, but to come out with a win was incredible."
  • Sacha Coenen : "It's really nice to win my first GP. I had good speed today and I knew I could do it! I had a great start in the second moto and did my race."
  • Liam Everts : "Tough weekend, but Sunday was more positive than Saturday. We have to keep working hard to get back on top."
  • Andrea Adamo : "Yesterday went well with 4th place, but today it seemed like everything was going badly. The speed is there, but the results have not arrived. We must avoid these mistakes and come back consistent."

The next round is the Italian Grand Prix in Maggiora, the tenth round of the 2024 calendar.
